Sensory-Friendly Saturday: Voyage Through Art & Nature

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday July 30

9:00 AM  –  10:00 AM

Also offered at 9:30 a.m. Click "Other times" to change time.

The event is scheduled from 9:00-10:30 a.m., with two arrival time slots to spread out the number of people in the galleries. Timeslots are flexible and visitors may stay past the end of the event, but the resources and activities inside the Museum will end promptly at 10:30 a.m.

Individuals on the autism spectrum or with sensory processing disorder and their families are invited to join us for early access to the Museum and a variety of creative and accessible activities. Families will have the opportunity to "journey" through the Museum and campus, discovering paintings, sculptures, and the natural world. Created in conjunction with local families and occupational therapists, this inclusive and accessible program strives to provide a welcoming experience through offering:

  • Pre-visit social stories
  • Reduced crowding and noise
  • Activities to meet a variety of sensory needs
  • Hands-on art activities for all developmental levels
  • On-hand support of skilled and friendly volunteers
  • Sensory regulation resources such as fidgets, noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, and a sensory break area

*Special tour for teens and adults*: Teens and adults are invited to join us at 10:30 for a short campus walk to the Monarch Migration Station with a naturalist to explore the sights, sounds, smells, and textures of this important natural area.

This program welcomes participants of all ages and their families (siblings welcome!).
