Sensory-Friendly Saturday: Pieces of Home

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday March 25

10:00 AM  –  10:30 AM

Also offered at 9:00 am and 9:30 am. Click "Other times" to change time.

The event is scheduled from 9:00-10:30 a.m., with three arrival time slots every half hour to spread out the number of people in the galleries. Timeslots are flexible and visitors may stay past the end of the event, but the resources and activities inside the Museum will end promptly at 10:30 a.m.

Individuals on the autism spectrum or with a sensory processing disorder and their families are invited to join us for early access to the Museum and a variety of creative and accessible activities. Families will have the opportunity to explore the Museum, discovering pieces of their own homes and experiences throughout the paintings in our galleries. Created in conjunction with local families and occupational therapists, this inclusive and accessible program strives to provide a welcoming experience through offering:

  • Pre-visit social stories
  • Reduced crowding and noise
  • Activities to meet a variety of sensory needs
  • Hands-on art activities for all developmental levels
  • On-hand support of skilled and friendly volunteers
  • Sensory regulation resources such as fidgets, noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, and a sensory break area

This program welcomes participants of all ages and their families (siblings, grandparents, and others are welcome!)
