Nature and art enthusiasts this stroll’s for you. Join award winning artist and instructor Randy Graham and botanical expert, Janet Ebert for a morning walk to experience Brandywine’s campus and/or meadows and native plantings. Randy will provide an introduction with teaching tips to effectively capture details of the natural surroundings through sketching, while Janet’s native botanical expertise will fuel your curiosity to learn more about the local ecology. The walk will be interspersed with stops to give participants the opportunity to engage in independent sketching.

This walk will take place on uneven, earthen paths that can be muddy. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes that can get wet. Participants should be comfortable walking 1-2 miles at a leisurely pace.

A spiral sketchbook and pencils are included in the price of registration. Please feel free to bring your own similar supplies if you prefer.

Spaces are limited.  For more information, contact Julia Steiner at jsteiner@brandywine.org

Randall Graham is a local award-winning artist and instructor, known for his personal style of plein air painting. He is represented by Gallery 222 and has exhibited at Winterthur Museum, The Pennsylvania State Museum and Ballinglen Museum Art in Ireland.   He teaches traditional painting classes at Graham Painting Studio in the heart of West Chester.

Janet Ebert a local botanical expert and valued partner of the Brandywine Conservancy began conducting studies to document rare, endangered, vulnerable or threatened plant species on lands conserved by the Brandywine. She has completed surveys for National Heritage Programs in both Pennsylvania and Delaware. Other projects have included working with The Nature Conservancy and Audubon of New Jersey. Janet continues to work closely with DCNR by consulting engineering firms on new construction projects requiring further botanical studies.

This program is part of the “Digging Deeper: Developing a Closer Connection with Native Plantings” series for those looking to create a closer connection with native plantings in their own backyard and community. This blended virtual and in-person series offers a different perspective on ways to engage on a deeper level with your natural surroundings.
