This event is no longer on sale.

Thursday September 10

7:00 PM  –  8:30 PM

Women played a major role in creating the conservation movement. While suffragists were working to achieve “votes for women”, women were also advocating for conservation of natural resources and for environmental protection.

Mira Lloyd Dock, of Harrisburg--a botanist, lecturer and activist--was influential at state, national and international levels. A member of the PA Forestry Commission (the first woman appointed to PA government), Dock championed science-based conservation, reforestation and anti-pollution laws. In 2016 the PA Dept of Conservation and Natural Resources honored her legacy by naming the state tree nursery the Mira Lloyd Dock Resource Conservation Center.

Susan Rimby, author of Mira Lloyd Dock and the Progressive Era Conservation Movement, will present a program centered on Dock’s work and the larger context of the role of women in conservation history. Dr. Rimby is the retired Founding Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Education at Lock Haven University.

Please be aware that this program is virtual and you will be provided with a Zoom link to attend. The program will begin at 7:00 PM.
