Backyard Nature Teacher Workshop

Discover how looking at nature in your own backyard – or schoolyard – or even in a work of art – can inspire rich learning opportunities across the curriculum. Jessica Allen will share creative yet simple ideas for nature study using “the vacant lot and the small backyard.” Observation-based art activities will be included. Light refreshments will be served during this special education event for those who teach at area schools or colleges. Free for educators with ID. Letters for teachers to submit for Act 48 credit will be provided.

Jessica Allen has degrees in Communication & The Arts, Secondary English Education and a M.Ed. in Teaching & Curriculum. She has completed the Jane Goodall Institute Growing Compassionate Leaders course and is a certified Pennsylvania TreeVitalize Tree Tender. As a current home educator, Ms. Allen shares her love of nature study and child-led learning through nature clubs and workshops. Her own backyard now features a native plant wildlife habitat and pollinator garden.
