Andrew Wyeth and Botany: Shared Perspectives from the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art
Wednesday, August 28 at 7 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time) on Zoom
The current Brandywine exhibition, Every Leaf & Twig: Andrew Wyeth’s Botanical Imagination, was developed through conversations between staff of both halves of the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art and is grounded in the understanding that art and conservation are inextricably linked. In this illustrated dialogue, ecologist and educator Melissa Reckner, Program Manager for the Conservancy’s Penguin Court Preserve, will share her perspective on the artworks in this exhibition in conversation with Dr. William L. Coleman, the Museum’s Wyeth Foundation Curator. Topics will include the ways in which the plant subjects Wyeth depicted are being impacted by changing growing conditions, including the increasingly severe flooding in the Brandywine Valley, (which the Conservancy is working with regional partners to mitigate,) and rapid changes in the Gulf of Maine. These contexts add new layers to the art on view, which is the work of an artist who was uncommonly attuned to the fragile rhythms of the natural world.
The pay-what-you-wish program will be held online and the Zoom link will be sent to the email address used during registration. Please double-check your spam/junk folder if you do not receive the confirmation email.
